How To Pray God’s Word

QUESTION: Can you teach me how to pray God’s Word?

ANSWER:

Jesus taught us how to pray God’s Word through His example. When praying the “The Lord’s Prayer” (Matthew 6:9-13), Jesus used direct quotes of Scripture. When Jesus was tempted in the wilderness during His forty days and nights of fasting, He quoted Scripture (Matthew 4:4, 7).

Much of King David’s Psalms were prayers using Old Testament Scripture. God answered King David straightaway and considered David His friend. If your heart’s desire is to be known of God, as David was, use the Psalms in your prayer life. Watch what God will do on your behalf!

Praying Scripture gives us authority over Satan, as Christ prayed against him. This method of prayer is helpful in extending one’s aloneness time with God, creating an intimate relationship with the Creator. When we are at a loss for words on how to pray in any situation we face, praying Scripture helps us to pray in a way that is pleasing to God.

The following are two examples of how to pray God’s Word:

“I command you--be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the LORD your God is with you wherever you go" (Joshua 1:9).

Thank You, Lord for being with me wherever I go. I will be strong, brave, and encouraged. I will not be afraid or dismayed. I will pray, and go, and do Your will. I thank You, Heavenly Father. Amen.

"I am leaving you with a gift -- peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give isn't like the peace the world gives. So don't be troubled or afraid” (John 14:27).

Thank You, Lord Jesus, for the peace that You give. I accept this peace, so my heart will not be troubled with the affairs of this world. I thank You, Heavenly Father. Amen.

What do you think?
We have all sinned and deserve God’s judgment. God, the Father, sent His only Son to satisfy that judgment for those who believe in Him. Jesus, the creator and eternal Son of God, who lived a sinless life, loves us so much that He died for our sins, taking the punishment that we deserve, was buried, and rose from the dead according to the Bible. If you truly believe and trust this in your heart, receiving Jesus alone as your Savior, declaring, "Jesus is Lord," you will be saved from judgment and spend eternity with God in heaven.

What is your response?

Yes, I want to follow Jesus

I am a follower of Jesus
